(What type and size ? Include a diagram or virus micrograph if possible)
Dengue Fever is a mosquito borne virus from the Flaviviridae family
Fig. 2.
Viral Specificity:
-A positive-sense, single-stranded RNA virus.
-Targets Dendritic cells
Symptoms and progression of the disease:
-This disease is simplistic and relatively not harmful the first time you get it, but the second time you are infected it is far worse due to Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever.
-severe fever
-chills, headache
-pain behind the eyes
-flushed at the onset of the fever
-rash may appear on the torso after 3-4 days
Common Methods of Transmission:
-It is transmitted by mosquitos biting you that are infected with a dengue
-can be transmitted by blood
Treatment and Prevention:
(Brief synopsis of treament. Outline preventive measures if any)
-There is no cure or treatment for Dengue Fever,
-the only suggestion is to lay in bed and try to wait it out,
-something called Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever can occur if you have been infected by a Dengue Fever previously or are around he age of 12, and this is potentially fatal.
-Symptoms are treated, e.g. with analgesics.
Miscellaneous:
-Mosquitos first gave it to humans
-The exact origins of the disease are not clear and arguments have been made that it originated in Africa and was spread worldwide with the slave trade
